Measure things that matter

Bolton Works is a South Windsor lab that turns physical geometry into evidence and into CAD. If you care about accuracy, craft, and shipping work a customer can use — this is that kind of shop.

A lab, not a cubicle farm

Since 2005, Bolton Works has scanned, inspected, and reverse-engineered hardware that does not forgive sloppy data — aerospace structure, turbomachinery, motorsports powertrains, industrial tools, and the occasional sculpture that has to be the right size.

The work is hands-on and exacting. One day you are correlating a scan to a CMM on a tight datum scheme. The next you are on a plant floor because the part cannot ship. The through-line is pride: we do not hand over a pretty mesh and walk away. We hand over geometry someone can inspect, machine, or defend.

We are a small Connecticut team. That means you see the whole job — customer brief, capture, modeling, report — not a single isolated step.

Structured light 3D scanning

White-light capture of freeform parts, thoughtful setups, and data that survives a second alignment.

CMM & GD&T

Contact measurement, datum schemes, and the judgment to know when a probe is the right tool.

Reverse engineering to CAD

Mesh, NURBS, and feature-based SolidWorks (or similar) matched to print, machine, or analyze.

Deviation mapping

Honest alignments and colormaps that show where a part is high, low, or in spec.

On-site measurement

Calm, professional capture in plants and hangars when the hardware cannot come to us.

Quality documentation

AS9100D-minded records, clear reports, and communication a customer can act on.

Reverse engineering and CAD at Bolton Works

What it feels like to work here

You will be trusted with real hardware and real deadlines. You will be expected to say when a method will not meet a tolerance — and to propose one that will. Curiosity is an asset; so is the patience to finish a model that a machinist can actually cut.

Experience in metrology software, SolidWorks, PolyWorks, Geomagic, or similar tools helps — as does photogrammetry or UAV/airframe CAD if that is the work you want. A background in mechanical engineering, quality, or hands-on manufacturing helps more. We will teach the house process. We cannot teach caring about the thousandth.
