A turbine wheel or guide vane is a poor CMM-only job. The aerodynamic surfaces are the product, and they are not a handful of planes. Structured light scanning captures the freeform; CMM still earns a place on datums, bores, and stack features.

Typical turbomachinery questions we answer

  • Does this blade match CAD (or the master airfoil)?
  • Where is the wear or foreign-object damage relative to a new-part scan?
  • Can we reverse-engineer a housing or impeller that has no usable model?
  • What is the as-built throat, fillet, or platform for a repair scheme?

Shininess, thin trailing edges, and deep hubs drive setup. We may use spray, polarizing filters, multiple orientations, or CT when internal passages matter. Industrial CT is complementary — see our note on when CT joins CMM and white light.
